Work at Expound Laboratories™

Expound Laboratories is an early-stage deep-tech company building the standards and systems that make meaning computable and finality governable. We hire full-time, part-time and contract, and we post roles on this page when they open. Expound Laboratories is based in the United States, and all roles are performed from the United States; applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. If you have startup experience and believe you could make an impact here, we want to hear from you now.

Where we are hiring

We do not have a posted role open right now.

The areas below are the ones we expect to fill first, and we are already talking with people about them. When a role opens it is posted here with level, location, arrangement and pay. Reach out with a few lines about what you have built and where you think you could make a difference.

Where we are looking

Startup experience in sales, marketing and software engineering.

The work spans a published standard, a model router, a conflation engine and the Work Management product, so the people we need range from sellers who can carry a technical argument to engineers who have shipped infrastructure.

Sales

Enterprise and platform sales for deep technology: licensing a standard, selling early access to a router, and working with frontier-model vendors, hyperscalers and tooling providers on embedding and integration. You have carried a technical product to technical buyers before, at a startup.

Marketing

Product and content marketing for a category that is being defined as it is built: positioning, launch, developer relations, and turning technical papers into arguments people act on. You have done this at a startup with a technical audience.

Software engineering: deep tech

Formal models, evidence pipelines, verification, distributed state and append-only records. You have built systems whose correctness mattered and can reason about what a result actually establishes.

Software engineering: application development tooling

CI/CD, build systems, developer platforms, IDE and workflow integrations. You know how engineers actually ship, and what a green check does and does not mean.

Software engineering: infrastructure operations

Cloud and on-premises operations, control planes, observability, security operations. You have run production systems and understand the seams between them.

Software engineering: artificial intelligence

Model serving, agent frameworks, routing, evaluation methodology and constrained learning. You have put models into consequential workflows and know where they need governing.

Full-time, part-time and contract arrangements are all open; the default is remote within the United States, full-time, senior. Tell us which you are looking for.

The science you would work on

Five contributions to computer science, stated in the core technical paper, and the products that carry them.

The lab’s core technical paper states five contributions to computer science. They are not background reading; they are the working material. Deep-tech engineers extend the formal model and the composition rules. AI engineers build the routing and constrained learning that must obey them. Tooling and infrastructure engineers turn the systems teams already run into evidence surfaces. Sales and marketing carry the argument to the people who need it.

  • Conflation as a property of representation, not of practice
  • A composition proof-obligation framework for decisions
  • Observation assurance is not consensus
  • An assurance measurement framework
  • Explicit proof, observability, decidability and trust boundaries

What it is like

A small team, a large problem, and a standard that governs its own construction.

Early, and real

The standard is licensable today; the Model Router, the conflation engine and the Work Management product are in development, with no public release date. You would be joining while the category is being defined.

Rigor over volume

Every result we publish is stated with the campaign that produced it, so that a second party can check it. We hold ourselves to the same standard we ask of machines.

Impact you can name

Small teams mean your work is visible in the product, the papers and the partnerships. If you want to be able to point at what you built, this is that kind of place.

Veterans

Founded by a service-disabled veteran. Veterans encouraged to apply.

Expound Laboratories was founded by a service-disabled military veteran, and we actively encourage veterans, service members and military spouses to apply. The habits that service builds (standards that are written down, evidence before assertion, accountability for outcomes) are the habits this company is built on.

That encouragement sits alongside a plain commitment: Expound Laboratories is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. Reasonable accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities at any stage of the process; tell us what you need.
