Expound/Platform/Semantic Computation™

Semantic Computation

The requirements, the evidence, the authorities and the licenses have to be things a machine can evaluate: typed, identity-bound, versioned records. Prose stays the human rendering. No particular format is prescribed, but free text alone is not enough.

The requirement

Meaning a machine can check, tied to a specific identity.

No particular data language is required. RDF and typed protocol buffers both conform. Free text alone is not, however good the text.

The requirement is meaning a machine can evaluate, tied to an identity, not a particular format. Prose stays the version people read, not the thing the computation runs on.

The objective is not to eliminate language. It is to prevent ambiguity, omission, equivocation and narrative drift from silently becoming computational authority.

A result is written up, read, summarized, quoted in a deck, pasted into a ticket and cited in a decision. At no point did anything check whether the claim relied on at the end is the claim established at the start.

A well-written summary≠An established claim

Prose≠What the computation runs on

The telephone game

Syncing status fields spreads the problem.

Underneath every fragmented organization the same process runs continuously. Work is done under one system’s vocabulary; its result is compressed into a status; the status is copied into another tool’s vocabulary; a dashboard summarizes the copies; a person summarizes the dashboard.

Each hop compresses what was known into what can be repeated, nobody in the chain can tell that it happened, and the party who finally acts is relying on the last retelling rather than on the original.

This is why integration projects disappoint: wiring the tools together copies statuses faster without making any of them mean more. When the build system, the deployment platform, the ticket and the monitoring system disagree, synchronization guarantees only that they will disagree in unison later. What is missing is a declared answer to which record controls, and no amount of copying manufactures it.

Which is why the architecture begins from declared obligations and typed evidence rather than from connectors.

The Semantic Virtual Machine

Contract-gated execution.

The SVM is what runs governed steps: if a step is not allowed by its contract, the SVM will not run it. It only runs what is allowed to run, and it is part of Finality Assurance Standards (FAS).
